ICONSIAM has a vision to open a new chapter on the bank of Chao Phraya river and in the history of Thailand
The vision of this building development is clear in the website’s About page. ICONSIAM presents the best of Thainess to the world. With an investment totalling 55 billion baht (~ 1.5 billion USD), three of Thailand’s most successful businesses partnered to develop the gargantuan precinct. For context, ICONSIAM features 5,650,000 square feet of retail floor space, two residential buildings, a riverside park, a hotel by Hilton, a 3,000 seat exhibition hall, and a heritage museum.
Housed inside ICONSIAM is a department store called SIAM Takashimaya. It’s the Bangkok branch of an internationally renowned Japanese brand and is in itself, a world of dining and shopping fun. On the ground floor, a supermarket stocks freshly imported food from Japan. There are also seven cafes and seven restaurants to relax in.
ICONSIAM opened at the end of 2018 and has since become a must-visit destination for local families, photographers, and tourists. Global approval is shown in its ranking in the world’s top four shopping centres. The ICONLUXE building is stunningly designed, with interiors that are reminiscent of golden palaces and external facades that are breathtakingly beautiful. Luxury brands from around the world are here, with some stocking products exclusive to this location.
If you’re planning your visit, be sure to factor in the multimedia water performances. The fountain stretches over 400 metres and is the longest in Southeast Asia. Dancing to the rhythm of concert-like music, the water performances occur at 6.30PM and 8PM every day.
An unforgettable aspect of ICONSIAM is the food. SookSiam is another part of the precinct that focuses on the cultural and gastronomic diversity of Thailand. Styled like the regional bazaars of Thai heritage, SookSiam presents itself as a marketplace with a plethora of arts, craft, and traditional food stalls. It’s an incredibly immersive experience, and a fun fact is that builders local to the four main regions of Thailand (Northern, Northeastern, Central, and Southern) were recruited. They modelled the architecture of SookSiam after their respective regions. There is even an indoor floating market, showing the lengths developers took to showcase genuine Thai culture.
